Hi!

Welcome to DIY Darling! I'm a twenty-something figuring out how to design my dream life on a dime. Let's take this journey together!

The Best Fall Decor This Season

The Best Fall Decor This Season

As the weather begins to cool off and the sunsets start highlighting the brilliant changing foliage, the feeling of fall begins to permeate the air. To prep for the new season, I put together a roundup of the best fall decor this year. I always look forward to crisp fall mornings, mugs of pumpkin spice lattes, and the trees transforming into bright oranges, yellows and reds. It’s my favorite time of year and I want my home decor to reflect it!

For the selects below, I tried to include a range of price points, as well as curated decor that works well together. I like to lean more subtle with my seasonal decor, which to me looks more high-end. With Halloween around the corner as well, I wanted all of this decor to be a pre-cursor to spooky-specific pieces; however, I think that every recommendation will look lovely layered in with future Halloween decor.

The official first day of fall is September 22nd, so get those orders placed now so you’re ready to decorate as soon as summer switches to autumn.

Wreaths

A front door wreath is the perfect piece to change out seasonally, and always makes your home look more inviting. I have a wreath for each season and fall is no exception. My front door is a deep red color, so I tend to lean towards fall wreaths that have more yellows and oranges in them, so they POP against the door paint. I love the mix of colors in the first Target wreath, and the dried wheat look of the Pottery Barn one would really stand out on my front door. The orange-berry Crate & Barrel wreath also comes in yellow and red, and the Amazon one looks so much more expensive than it is!

Porch Decor

pink and red mums in a concrete planter

How cute is that Anthropologie fox doormat? It’s the perfect blend of fall and whimsy - right up my alley! I love those Terrain lanterns, which I would either fill up with mini pumpkins or pillar candles as pictured. Pro tip: look into faux candles to avoid any potential melting! My front porch gets blasted with afternoon sun, so even on cooler fall days, I run the risk of melted candle wax. A stack of mini pumpkins is a cute alternative that I will do myself this year - it looks so chic!

The woven basket from Target is perfect for a colorful mum. My trick here is to keep the mum in it’s grow pot and gently place it inside the basket. When it needs to be watered, simply remove the mum from the basket and soak it in a bucket of water. Mums are best watered from the bottom up (rather then directly on the leaves and blooms). Those green-faux pumpkins from Pottery Barn would looks great on porch steps, and they come in a variety of colors and sizes. Mix and match for an elevated look!

Home Decor

I LOVE those faux kiku stems from Terrain, especially with the ombre color effect. I would recommend getting at least three bunches to fill out your vase or vessel. The Etsy art print is downloadable, and available to print in multiple sizes. Swap out a current art piece you have hanging with this one for fall, or get a smaller size and add to a shelf or bathroom. The filler from Williams-Sonoma would look great in a low bowl - and it will make your house smell amazing. And I love that those paper pumpkins from West Elm are foldable and thus easy to store after the fall season is over.

Candles

A candle is the quickest way to make your house feel like fall (or any season, for that matter!) The Target candle is such a pretty scallop shape and smells like harvest-chestnut-orange. That gorgeous Anthropologie pumpkin candle is hand painted and smells like pumpkin-sweet-vanilla. Pottery Barn comes out with seasonal candles each year, and this one smells like harvest-spice. And I always love Homesick candles - this one is available on Amazon and smells like fresh-hay-nutmeg-tonka.

Table Settings

A beautifully set table welcomes guests and makes your whole home feel special. The table runner from Pottery Barn is a piece that can stay out all the time, and I love the intricate wheat stalks that make up the Anthropologie candelabra - how pretty would it looks set atop the table runner? For plates, I love the mixed set from Crate & Barrel, and those stitched napkins from target will make the whole table setting feel like fall.

Charcuterie Setup

I love a charcuterie set up any time of year, but something about the fall season makes me want to invite friends over for wine and cheese. This marble and wood round tray from West Elm is so special and gives just a slight fall-nod. The cheese picks from Anthropologie are totally darling and make me want to try new cheeses! The green plaid paper cocktail napkins from Target are SO affordable (and make for easy clean-up!) and the cheese knives from Crate & Barrel are heirloom pieces you’ll have for years to come.

Blankets

Cozy up with a blanket and you’ll automatically be transported into the autumn spirit. I love the burgundy patterned West Elm one (and can attest to it’s coziness!) and the green plaid from Target is perfectly fall while still staying subtle. The Company Store is unmatched for cozy-factor, and while it’s a higher price point, it’s a blanket that will last you for years (the quality is that good). The Amazon double stitch throw is super soft alpaca wool and feels really luxurious. I want them all!

Pillows

Swap out a few pillows in your living room and the whole space will feel transformed. The boucle pumpkin pillow from Pottery Barn is so cute, and would also look great as an accent pillow in a bedroom. Target always has great seasonal pillows - this corduroy rust pillow is a great option to combine with a more detailed or patterned one. I am obsessed with the round mushroom pillow from World Market (what is it about mushrooms that feel autumnal? I’m here for it). And that shearling camel-colored pillow from Crate & Barrel is begging to be cuddled while watch Gilmore Girls or Practical Magic.
