5 Halloween DIY Projects to Try
Spooky season is right around the corner and now is the time to start those Halloween DIY projects! I am going all out this year and even though it is the middle of September, Halloween decor is already selling out. Get inspired by the following projects that are sure to scare all the trick-or-treaters in your neighborhood, and put you in the Halloween spirit!
I’m starting with simple and ending with extravagant, so go at your own pace. My recommendation would be to mix in homemade decor with store bought for a fully customized look.
Homemade Haunted House Sign:
Entering the chat is my one and only Halloween DIY from last year - an easy Haunted House sign. This project is about as easy as it gets and I used scraps I had lying in my garage (honestly, it was a relief finding a use for the pile of wood that has accumulated over the years…) I have a full tutorial linked below and I’m excited to find a spot for my ghost + sign this year!
Creepy Floating Doll Props:
These are SERIOUSLY creepy - and they also seem really easy to make on your own! Talk about high-impact on a budget. I want to go for a Harry Potter-themed Halloween this year, and I could do a spin on these and make them lean more towards a Dementor with a simple addition of black cheese cloth.
Headless Horseman Inn:
Another sign… but this one is about 5x the size! Here’s what’s great about this DIY - all you need is an old headboard and some paint, and you’re very own Headless Horseman Inn is in business. I love how they used spotlights to really emphasize the sign, and the pumpkins + straw on the two posts really create the perfect Halloween vignette.
A Witchy Window:
Illuminate the Halloween-scene of your choosing to make your house come to life with the spirit of the season! Bonus: add music to really set the mood. I love that this project comes together with just a few materials - black foam board, an exacto knife, electrical tape, and orange lights.
The Ultimate Harry Potter Halloween Front Yard
Rounding out this roundup is probably one of the most enviable Halloween front yards I’ve ever seen. And - spoiler - I will be using it as inspiration for my decor this year! I am obsessed with the multiple layers of film and book references, and Chamber of Secrets is quite possibly the most perfect source inspirations for spooky season.
