DIY Haunted House Sign
Happy Halloween darlings! What better way to get in the spooky spirit than a DIY Haunted House Sign? The best part? It’s all made from materials you probably already have lying around the house.
Materials:
Wood scraps (you’ll need a 2x2 and a 2x8)
Jigsaw
Sandpaper
Craft paint (black)
Fine paint brush
Pencil
Rubber mallet
Hammer + nails

Cut wood to size using a jigsaw. I cut the bottom of the 2x2 into a pointed stake so that I could drive it into the ground easier. I didn’t worry too much about measurements or precision, as I felt the sign needed to look more homemade to look more creepy.
Distress the wood using a blade, sandpaper, and soot (I achieved this by lighting a scrap piece of wood on fire and rubbing the blackened end on the wood. Have fun with it and get messy - it could be a violent spirit haunting your house!!
Using a pencil, trace out HAUNTED onto the wood. I practiced on a piece of paper first to get the lettering and spacing right. At the top of the wood, I added “this house is” and smeared the black paint to look like it was melting. I used black craft paint and a fine point paint brush to fill in all the letters. It dried quite quickly! Additionally, I painted the raw edges of the wood sign in black.
Use a rubber mallet to pound the stake into the ground. Highly recommend doing this before the first frost of the season while the ground is still soft. Once the stake is secure, nail the sign into the front using a hammer and two nails.
And just like that, your DIY Haunted House Sign is complete and ready for Halloween. I love how it looks with my spooky ghost and creepy cloth decorations! Just goes to show you don’t need to spend a lot to deck out your house for the holidays.
Hope you have a Happy Halloween and stay safe out there!
