The BEST Fourth of July Dessert
My favorite dessert of all time just so happens to be perfectly in-theme for the 4th of July! Enter: the Fruit Pizza. Colorful, delicious, and truly the best dish for an Independence Day celebration. I just so happen to live in the United States, so strawberries and blueberries make up the best red, white & blue color scheme, but you can tailor this sweet treat to any theme or celebration - just switch out the fruit!
Now, I’m not the first person to make a Fruit Pizza, but this recipe has been passed down in my family for years and years. Case in point: this picture from six years ago!
We’ve made it for plenty of other occasions than the 4th of July; however, I find that it’s best during the summertime, possibly because of the freshness of the fruit and the colorful display. You’ll have to try it out and let me know what you think in the comments below!
Fruit Pizza
Ingredients:
8 oz. cream cheese
4 oz. whipped cream
2 Tbls. lemon juice
1 box of sugar cookie mix
1 container of strawberries
1 container of blueberries
1/2 cup of sugar
1 Tbls. cornstarch
1/2 cup of orange juice
Recipe:
Bake the sugar cookie per package instructions. Be sure to spread the mixture onto a baking sheet (either rectangle or round will work).
Blend the cream cheese and whipped cream. Spread on cooled sugar cookie.
Arrange the fruit in any pattern. For the 4th of July, you can make an American flag!
Make the glaze topper by bringing to a boil the sugar, corn starch, orange juice, lemon juice and 1/4 cup of water. Let it boil for 1 minute, then top the fruit pizza with the glaze.
Refrigerate for at least an hour.
And because it’s not the Fourth of July without a festive outfit, here’s a roundup of items to make a cute red, white & blue look! Your fruit pizza will look even better with an Independence Day ‘fit.
