Hi!

Welcome to DIY Darling! I'm a twenty-something figuring out how to design my dream life on a dime. Let's take this journey together!

Boho Yarn Wall Hanging

Boho Yarn Wall Hanging

My macrame skills were put to the test when a friend asked if I could help her make wall hanging for her new apartment. Honestly, I'd never done anything like this, but I am so thrilled with the result - this may be my favorite DIY to date!

The goal was to recreate yarn wall hangings we'd seen on Pinterest like this and this, but incorporate green to tie into the dresser. We added twine, knots and braids to parts of the yarn to add dimension and texture.

First up, head on over to Joann's Fabric for your yarn. There was a sale going on (yay!) and we got a variety of widths and textures. Pick colors that are complimentary and will go with your current decor.

Wrap your twine around one end of the dowel. Tuck in the ends and repeat on the other side, keeping some slack in the middle for hanging.

Measure the length of the space you'll be hanging your masterpiece. I personally like that the ends of this one are mismatched but you can always use a tape measure to ensure uniformity. Cutting the yarn takes the longest part. Here's a nifty little visual on how to tie on each piece, but you'll notice that I clumped multiple strands together and then tied it to the dowel. Ultimately, you'll be cutting hundreds of strands, which sounds daunting, but we finished in less than 2 hours.

After everything was tied on, we played with knoting pieces together, braiding sections, and using twine throughout to match with the twine on the dowel.

Can we also please discuss the gorgeous exposed brick in this space? I am obsessed. I get weirdly excited about exposed brick...anyone else?? Keep on scrolling for a detailed How To DIY.

HOW TO DIY

Yarn (JOANN Fabric)

Wooden Dowel (JOANN or any hardware store)

Hot Glue (for added twine to yard)

Scissors

1. Start with tying twine to one side of the wooden dowel. Wrap extra twine and tuck in the end pieces. Repeat on the opposite side, leaving some slack for hanging.

2. Measure the wall where the finished product will be hung to determine the length of your yarn pieces. You could either have them all different lengths, or one specified length. Cut yarn. Cut more yarn. When you think you're done, cut even more yarn. This takes the longest.

3. Group pieces of yarn together; loop over the dowel, pull end pieces through, then pull tight to secure. Continue until the entire dowel is filled.

4. Add in braids, knots, and twine to give your art dimension and texture. Hang with a nail and take a picture!
