Our New Bathroom (with zero demolition)
I’m thrilled to share our new bathroom that we refreshed with zero demolition. A mini-makeover, if you will. To catch you up to speed, check out the process of planning out our no-demo bathroom renovation to see how I combined our favorite items from three different moodboards to get to the final design. Once the paint colors were selected and the decor ordered, we set out on a bathroom refresh that, frankly, I didn’t realize how much I would love until it was completed.
See, I have a long-term plan of expanding this bathroom with a full gut job. It’s the only bathroom on the second floor, and the one that my husband and I share (along with any other person staying in the house, as the other bathroom on the main floor is just a half-bath). We would like it to be larger, with more storage and more room to share. And I thought I could just tough it out until that day arrived…but one day, my husband suggested we do a short-term fix. Since I can’t say no to a house project, I lept at the opportunity.
Here’s what we’d been working with since we moved in:
Here’s what we wanted to accomplish:
More storage
New paint color & decor
Remove builder-grade mirror + add new one
New light
Paint the vanity
We got to work in phases, starting with removing the old mirror, painting everything (the walls, trim, door, ceiling and vanity) and installed a new light. It was immediately better!
Phase two consisted of adding shelving above the toilet and storage solutions with new baskets and under-the-sink organization that made both our lives easier. Oh - and I spray painted the medicine cabinet with a metal textured spray paint to cover up any rust spots, as well as re-caulked the sides to give a crisp edge.
Part three - finally the pretty stuff! I found the ‘Meet Me in Denver’ art print from Etsy, which not only ties in the green accents throughout the room, but also speaks to our new chapter living in Denver, adding a touch of meaning to the decor (always a plus). My favorite part of the whole room is definitely the new shower curtain from Anthropologie. I love the colors and the whimsical pattern. A new bathmat and green towels capped it all off to create a textured and layered space.
I love the light coming through the shower window, made all that much prettier with the fresh paint color - Dumpling by Sherwin Williams. I think the lighter wood works to make the space feel both contemporary and organic, not to mention that it ties into the wood color of the shelving on the opposite wall.
A small detail moment that I think really makes the space look more custom - the curved corner on the wood shelves. Believe it or not, these shelves are made from simple pine + stain + floating brackets. I used my jigsaw to curve the corner and I’m pleased to say that a few people have asked where I purchased them! The curve also repeats with the round mirror, which is a great example of a key design technique: repetition. Whether it’s repeated shapes, colors, or materials, having repetition is a great way to make the room “flow” and feel well-designed.
Now for more pretty photos.
I’m so pleased with how our bathroom turned out, and it truly is a joy getting ready in here every morning. From the colorful shower curtain to the art hanging throughout, the space now feels like it fits in our house. And while I can’t wait for the addition in the future, I’m really grateful for this refresh for the time being.
