Under the Sea Baby Shower
Is there anything cuter than an Under the Sea Baby Shower? I helped throw a baby shower for my sweet sister-in-law, Fran. Since Fran and my brother, Jay, were waiting until the birth to find out the gender, we wanted the shower to be gender-neutral. Jay is an officer in the navy, so we picked a nautical theme, which is also how they were decorating the nursery!
We used clear balloons to look like bubbles, and made a large balloon garland, as well as floated a few with under-the-sea balloon stickers attached. Throughout the food and dessert spreads, we added sea glass, vintage wooden crates, dried grapewood, pampas grass, and wooden sailboats. We ordered nautical flags to spell out ‘Baby Darling’ - and while no one there actually knew how to read it, I loved the personal touch!
I created flower arrangements using thistle, roses, baby’s breath, and St. John’s Wort in a variety of glass vases. The cookies were custom-made by The Cookie Thief Bakery and my mom cooked all of the food (and made the adorable googly-eyes for the crab-croissants).
We played a few classic baby shower games, like ‘Baby Word Scramble’ and ‘Baby Emoji-Pictionary’. Fran opened gifts and we all brought baby books instead of cards. It was a perfect day together.

We loved showering Fran and Baby Darling with love and well-wishes and the Under the Sea theme was a perfect fit! That is what life is all about! And I’m eagerly awaiting the arrival of the baby… any guesses on if it’s a boy or girl??
UPDATE: since writing this post, Baby Darling has arrived! Fran and Jay welcomed Gemma Kay Darling into the world on April 22nd 🩷.
